Generac 60kW to 150kW Generators
Generac ended production of the QT Commercial Generators and begins shipping the new Protector Series 100 kW, 130 kW, and 150 kW Generators later this year. The 60kW and 80kW models began shipping last year. The new 150kW, 130kW, and 100kW generators completes Generac's transition to the Protector Series Generators for
The Protector Generators have new, more powerful Generac engines, meet strict air quality rules, and include the latest Generac Evolution controllers.
Installers should note a different footprint and stub-up locations, and the inclusion of features specific to service and accessories.
New orders for Generac 100kW, 130kW and 150kW Generators are filled with the New Generac Protector Series Generators.
The generators include both single phase and 3-phase generators that run on natural gas or LPG propane.

New Generac Purpose Built Engine
Protector Series 100 kW to 150 kW Generac Generators come with a NEW 9.0 Liter 1800 RPM Engine direct coupled to the alternator. Older generators had a gearbox between the 6.8 Liter engine and the alternator that reduced engine RPM to match the alternator requirements for 60 Hertz output. Direct coupling is quieter, more efficient, and employs moving parts.
The 9.0 Liter engine comes naturally aspirated for the 100kW generator and in a turbo-charged aftercooled configuration for the 130kW and 150kW models. Turbo charging and aftercooling adds additional power by compressing the air before it enters the cylinder, allowing for more fuel and air to enter the engine and produce more power.
Generac Protector Series Features and Benefits
Generac Alternator
Generac designed the new revolving field heavy duty alternator and builds it in Wisconsin. The generators feature lower Total Harmonic Distortion (<5% THD) and improved SkVA for starting heavy motors. Custom, Generac designed laminations increase transient performance and improve efficiency by lowering heat for longevity and performance.
The four-pole alternator has 4 output leads on single phase models, a 12-wire output configuration for 3-phase generators. (6 lead output on 150kW 240-Volt and 480-Volt 3-phase Models.) Solid state, frequency compensated voltage regulation with True Power Technology and an isochronous electronic governor ensure clean power safe for electronics and heavy loads.

Protector Evolution Controller
The Nexus controller in older QT models was due for an upgrade. Generac developed their latest Evolution controller in house to control Generac engines, alternators, and systems. Incorporates the dual external mechanical shutdown as required by the 2017 NEC and has the circuit breaker lockout, also required by the 2017 NEC.
Evolution features a two-line multilingual LCD display to control, configure, service, and monitor the generator. Compatible with the Mobile Link remote monitoring products (wireless mobile link included with the generator) for use with smartphones, tablets, and computers. Generac designed the Evolution controller to work directly with Generac automatic transfer switches and controls for complete compatibility.
Quiet Operation
Equipped with the Quiet Test exercise cycle for less noise and reduced engine wear. During regularly scheduled exercise, the engine runs at a lower speed with lower fuel consumption and a lower noise level.
In use, the 150kW, 130kW generator models have a 70 dBA sound level, down from as much as 79 dBA in older models. The lower 1800 RPM engine with the sound attenuated enclosure and enclosed critical grade muffler reduce lower noise levels
