Generac Soft Start AC Kit
The Generac Soft Start 16-32 FLA is an AC Soft Starter. A Soft Start AC Reduces the starting amps required by large motors like AC Compressors when they first start. The motor starting current without an AC Soft Starter is three to six times the full load running amps of a motor. An Air Conditioner compressor motor on a 3-ton AC Unit could draw up 50 amps during the first few seconds it starts and a 5-ton up to 85 amps.
High starting currents such as these significantly impact performance on solar battery storage and standby generator capacity. A Soft Start AC module allows the motor to start with a much lower starting current, reducing the load on the storage batteries or standby generator.
Soft Start Kit 16-32 FLA
Generac recommends a Generac Soft Start Kit 16-21 FLA on large motors including an AC Compressor and well pumps over 1/2 horsepower. Reducing the starting current of air conditioners and other large motors reduces the load on battery storage and standby generator systems.
The Generac AC Soft Starter manufactured by Hyper Engineering is a Single Phase Soft Starter for 1.75 to 7 horsepower at 230-240 Volts AC for motors rated at 32 Amps (RLA—Rated Load Amps). It reduces the inrush current (LRA-Locked Rotor Amps) up to 70 percent. The above mentioned air conditioners could have their starting currents reduced to 15 amps for the 3-ton and 25 amps for the 5-ton, a significant reduction especially for PWRcell and standby generator systems.
AC Soft Starter
Generac’s AC Soft Starter is small at 5.3 inches long, 2.9 inches wide, and 2 inches high. It fits into a mounting bracket that is shorter and slightly wider (3.8 x 3.16 x .65 inches) but not as high. Works with 240-Volt Single Phase compressor motors rated for full load current in the range of 16 amps to 32 amps. Wiring terminals include Run Winding, Run Capacitor, T2, Start Winding, and Compressor Common.
The Single Phase Soft Starter is ETL, CE, and RoHS Compliant.
