Norwall PowerSystems offers four new options to the Cummins 13kW and 17kW Quiet Connect Home Standby Generators. Cummins bundles the Cummins 20kW RS20AC with a 200-Amp Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS.) but the sell the transfer switches for the 13kW and 17kW Cummins Home Generator separately. Buyers can choose between 100-Amp and 200-Amp ATS models to match their home’s electrical service.

Norwall now offers four exclusive new options for Cummins Home Standby Generator packages and offers 13kW and 17kW Quiet Connect models packaged with an ATS.

Cummins Quiet Connect Features and Benefits

Cummins Home Generator Automatic Transfer Switches

Cummins Quiet Connect Home Generator Shown with Automatic Transfer SwitchNorwall created new combinations for the Cummins RS13A 13kW Generator and the Cummins RS17A 17kW Generator with either a 100-Amp ATS or a 200-Amp ATS. Both transfer switches are Service Entrance (SE) rated and may serve as the NEC required disconnect for the generator and the utility service.

An SE rating means the switch can safely disconnect the home’s main panel from the electric utility equipment. A service rated ATS installs between the electric meter and the main circuit breaker panel and may replace an external disconnect. Typical service entrance ratings for modern homes are 100-Amp, 150-Amp, and 200-Amp. Older homes may have a 60-Amp service entrance.

Read the Amps marked on the home’s main circuit breaker or external disconnect to find the utility service rating. Most homes have either a main circuit breaker or an external disconnect, not both. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires protection for all electrical equipment that does not exceed its rating. Therefore, a 100-Amp utility service can safely feed a 200-Amp ATS because the ATS can handle current up to 200 amps. The reverse is not true. A 200-Amp utility service may not feed a 100-Amp ATS because it exceeds the ATS rating of 100 amps.

To choose the right automatic transfer switch or Cummins Home Standby Generator package, match the home’s service rating with the transfer switch rating. The correct Automatic Transfer Switch has a rating equal to or higher than the utility service rating.

For example, a home with 60-Amp or 100-Amp service requires a 100-Amp ATS. Homeowners with 150-Amp or 200-Amp service choose the 200-Amp Cummins ATS. A 300-Amp or 400-Amp service requires either a 400-Amp ATS, or a pair of 200-Amp transfer switches.

Norwall makes it easy to choose and saves you money at the same time. The Cummins Home Generator with ATS packages cost less than purchasing the same generator and transfer switch separately.
