The fully automatic backup system starts and runs seconds after an outage hits and supplies power to your entire home or selected circuits. With Symphony II Power Management (Symphony II ATS Required—Sold Separately,) the 40590 powers all the large and small appliances, air conditioners, furnaces, pumps, and much more.
The 12 kW Generator keeps your home and family comfortable and safe from the hazards of an outage. Refrigerators and freezers stay cold. Sump pumps keep the basement dry. Heating and Air Conditioning keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Briggs & Stratton 12 kW Generator
Briggs & Stratton implemented a new and more efficient alternator on the 40590 12 kW Generator for exceptional voltage control and more power for starting motors including central air conditioners. Tighter voltage control with less than 5% total harmonic distortion (THD) means cleaner power for sensitive electronics and heavy-duty motors.
An Automatic Transfer Switch (required, available separately) isolates the utility lines and connects the 40590 generator to the home automatically. An ATS with Symphony II management ensures the generator won't overload and shutdown. It prioritizes loads like air conditioners, electric dryers, and electric ranges and only allows them to run when power is available. The dryer might wait until you finish cooking dinner, for example. Also available: a 16-circuit ATS to power essential circuits only.
An air-cooled 627cc OHV twin cylinder Commercial Vanguard Engine powers the 12kW Generator. The engine runs on natural gas (NG) or propane (LPG) as selected by the installer. Built with Dura-Bore Cast Iron Cylinder Sleeves, Low Oil detection and shutdown, and a fully pressurized lubrication system.
The user programmable weekly test mode run operates at a lower RPM for less noise, reduced wear, and lower fuel consumption.

Certified to withstand hurricane force winds up to 175 MPH. The Corrosion Resistant Enclosure made of Galvanneal Steel resists rust for years of service. A Powder Coat Finish provides protection against chips, scrapes and abrasion for a long life.
Requires a 12-Volt battery, Group BCI 26 or 51, with a minimum of 540 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) available locally. The Briggs & Stratton 12kW Generator maintains the battery with an independent 3-stage charger.
