How the Manual Transfer Kit for Generator Works
A transfer switch is the safest way to power your home with a portable generator during a power outage.
The switch has a panel with 10 circuits that power the appliances and outlets you select at installation. It receives power from the utility through a double-pole breaker in your main circuit breaker panel and distributes it through the transfer switch panel. When an outage hits, connect your generator to the inlet box and start it. At your transfer switch, you will notice that the green utility light is off and the blue generator light is on. You can turn off some circuit breakers in transfer switch to reduce the load if necessary.
Now transfer power from the generator to the circuits in your load center by setting the rocker switch to the generator.
That's it. The circuits you selected at installation have power.
When the utility restores power, the green LED will light. Switch back to Utility power with the rocker switch.
