6500 Watt Generator Engine
Powered by a Champion 389cc OHV engine, the 6500 watt generator has plenty of power for all your needs. It runs on regular gasoline, propane*, and natural gas. The Multi-Fuel Engine’s low-oil sensor automatically detects low oil and shuts down to prevent engine damage. Electric start and cold start technology simplify startup, especially in cold weather. Uses 5W-30 Oil (included).
The engine operates at 74 dBA—compare to the average home vacuum cleaner—quiet compared to other generators with a similar power capacity.

CO Shield Carbon Monoxide Automatic Shutdown
This generator comes equipped with CO Shield, a carbon monoxide sensor that shuts the generator down when it detects Carbon Monoxide.
The Champion 6500 Watt Tri Fuel generator is for outdoor use only, positioned away from homes and other buildings, with the exhaust pointed away from any persons or buildings.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an odorless, invisible gas produced by internal combustion engines and any device that burns a fuel to produce heat or energy. The CO Shield shutdown feature adds an extra measure of safety to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning caused by misuse.
The Champion Generator Owner Manual explicitly states that the generator is only for use outdoors. Keep the generator at least 20-feet away from any windows, doors, vents, or other openings with the exhaust pointed away from buildings and preferably downwind.
According to the Champion Owner Manual and Website, this generator May NOT run indoors. All homes should have a working, up to date, carbon monoxide detector on each level of the home.
Read the Owner Manual Before Use.
What Can a 6500 Watt Generator Run?
The 6500 Watt Champion Generator can run any load or combination of loads that does not exceed the continuous load rating of 6500 Watts for gasoline, 6000 for propane, or 5500 watts for natural gas. The load with the highest starting watts must not exceed the generator maximum surge or running watts capacity by itself or while supporting other loads.
For example, if a Central AC Unit Requires 3000 Running Watts and 8000 Starting Watts, the Champion 6500 Watt Generator could run AC unit, but not much else because the generator maximum starting power is 8175 Watts. Any load greater than 175 watts would exceed the generator maximum whenever the AC unit starts. Use of a soft starter on the AC Unit could alleviate this restriction.
