Champion 100176 Details and Specifications
Champion 12.5kW Generator
The 100176 Champion 12.5-kW Home Standby Generator with 100-Amp Indoor-Rated Automatic Transfer Switch supplies up to 12 of your home’s most essential circuits including refrigerators, freezers, sump pumps, lights, furnace and air conditioning, computers, security systems, televisions, and much more with backup power during an outage.
Home represents security, health, convenience, and safety—principles all homeowners hold dear. Don’t put these ideals at risk. Every year, millions of homeowners go without power during extended power outages that last hours, days, even weeks. No power means no lights, heating or air conditioning. The Internet doesn’t work. Food spoils in refrigerators and freezers. A day or two without power can cost thousands in repairs and irreplaceable lost heirlooms, treasures, and memories. A 12.5kW 100176 Champion Home Standby Generator can change everything.

Looks like a winner
I ordered the unit on the 13th and it arrived on the 18th in good condition - it is heavy so be prepared to handle it. I live on an island in a lake which is subject to occasional flooding so I mounted it on a stand (which actually made hookup slightly easier). You will need #6/3 for the mains, 10 conductor (size depends on length required), gas piping, a separate ground and batteries for the hookup - I spent +/- $400. I purchased #14/5 for the communication wire simply because it was what was readily available locally. Installing the transfer switch takes the most time; it only has 12 slots so plan carefully. I have two sub panels so I was able to connect virtually everything. The instructions for the generator are better than the ones for the ATS. The installation went well, the only problem was the ATS blew a fuse every time it switched and the fuses are quite difficult to get to (maybe 2 stars for the ATS). The installation is not really technical but unless you have a bit of experience with electrical (and a little plumbing) it is not really a DIY. The unit waits about 10 seconds after a power failure before it cranks - guess this is to avoid the power blinks experienced occasionally then loads about 15 seconds after startup. Overall I really like the unit (even comes with a small oil cooler!). The V twin is quite smooth although I am not sure about the 62db sound level though it is much, much quieter than the 6.5 kw portable I was using. If the unit stands the test of time it will have been a great investment and will go to 5 stars..
