Generac Cold Weather Kit for 15kW & 20kW Protector Diesel Standby Generators
A cold weather kit for a Generac Protector Diesel Generator includes a battery warmer and an engine block heater. The kit comes a 1 year limited warranty. Generac recommends a Cold Weather Kit for generator installations wherever temperatures regularly fall below freezing (32 Degrees Fahrenheit.)
When temperatures fall below the optimum starting temperature, the thermostat activates the battery warmer and oil heater. The battery warmer allows maximum starting power from the generator battery while the oil heater keeps the oil warm for easier starts. The battery warmer turns on at 40° F and turns off at 55° F. The oil heater activates at 60° and turns off 80° F.
A Generac Generator Cold Weather Kit requires the proper oil grade and viscosity. Generac also recommends the use of synthetic oil for easier cold weather starts. See the chart below.
