WI Retreat Manager
This is the fourth Westinghouse generator we have purchased for emergency power back-up over three years. Now we have one for each building. The previous ones have consistently started and performed well when called on. We have chosen this brand over other makes for their better carburetor and endurance.

New Generatoer
Decided to go with the WGen9500DF vs a whole house generator. Arrived on time and in good shape. Everything was in the carton as noted and all the details and directions were spot on. Won't be cranking for a little longer but so far, I am impressed with this generator. Pull handle and wheels make all the difference in the world when moving this generator. Not going to be near the issue as some may have thought. Looking forward to using this product and unless you hear back you will know all went as expected/hoped.

Worked as expected. Needed adjustments for my use case.
Westinghouse is highly recommended. I am using the generator with a house transfer switch and at over 5000 feet density altitude using propane due to the clean burning and virtually unlimited storage time characteristics. There are some things to consider for this specific use. This device must be modified for use at high elevations. This means the end user must purchase and change the carburetor jet and an orifice in the propane pressure regulator assembly to compensate for the reduced air pressure. When sizing a generator take into account it must be de-rated due to altitude and fuel choice. The 9500DF on Propane is reduced to 8500 watts and then to around 7250 watts for 5000 ft above sea level. Also; If this Generator will be connected to an electrical panel through a transfer switch, the grounded neutral wire in the alternator must be disconnected. There are documents describing the procedure for download on Westinghouse support website. Removing the grounded neutral connection will disable the GFI protection on the two 20 AMP outlets. After I got the unit modified and connected to the house through a manual transfer switch, I discovered it was operating a little to fast. I measured 63 Hz instead of 60 Hz. This caused the Standby power supplies protecting my computers to refuse to allow the power through to them. To correct the issue required an adjustment to the governor. The 9500DF has an accurate frequency display which is perfect for the task of adjusting the limit screw to the required 60Hz. The generator AC output moves up and down in frequency a half Hz during steady operation. End result. My standby power supplies are happy. My electronic dimmers and LED bulbs are happy enough and even my 3 ton central AC can start (18 AMPs @ 240 VAC) and run (6 AMPS). For my use I would not want to go any smaller. Would have liked the 12500 watt version were it available.

GULF COAST LIVIN'
When you live along the Gulf Coast, you need a reliable generator. This Westinghouse WGEN9500DF arrived just in time for our first hurricane as Ida slammed Louisiana earlier this week. The generator worked as described and saved us from losing a freezer full of food and allowed us to sleep in comfort!
